BOOT CAMP?
Should boot camp be implemented in Singapore? What are your point of views? One parent in Singapore believes that it is important for teenagers to undergo boot camps in order to alter their attitude. In her proposal, she wrote that teenagers in this generation are misbehaving. Well, I personally agree on this as nowadays some teenagers can be more rash, abrasive and impulsive in nature.
BRAINS
BRAINS
Nowadays some teenagers have been getting involved in all sorts of trouble, such as slashing cases or even fights. As a result they are becoming more prone to creating problems that may burden the society and they people around him. You may ask why these people do such an act. Well, this is due to a study made by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, California institute of Technology. From the research, it is said that the parts of the teenager's brain that controls physical movement, vision and the senses is developed first, while the regions in the frontal lobe of the brain is not developed till the early 20s. Therefore their level of emotional control and the ability to consider consequences is low. Hence, the government needs to take a step forward to alter the behavior of these teenagers so that they can lead responsibly in the future of the nation.
GOVERNMENT
On the other hand, as you all have known
that the Singapore government have been encouraging parents to give birth so as to
raise the declining birth rate of Singapore, many incentives such as extending
the maternity leave, baby bonus or even Edusave schemes have been introduced. This scheme was introduced to lessen the burden of the parents
and also at the same time increases the child opportunities in school. Beside
home another place that the child spent most of his/her time is in school, I
believe that education in school play a significant part in instilling moral and
values into the child. I still remembered those times when we had civic moral
education as part of our subject but now the school doesn't. It seems to me that
the education nowadays focuses on the knowledge rather than the morals. Indeed
for today society, knowledge can bring us a step nearer to our success but
having any morals and values is important too. Thus, I feel that the
government had the need to bring back the subject civic moral education.
NS NO USE?
NS NO USE?
We
would have always heard from our fathers or our friends that when boys who enter
NS (national service), they would become more mature and they become more
responsible than they were before. However, out of those boys who have matured,
how long are they able to retain that reliable behavior? They will eventually
go back to how they were before which they are comfortable with. Maybe in front
of the those people who possess higher authority, they are unable to react in a
certain way as they were before, but when they are free or not seen by people
they would not be aware of what they are doing.
They
may feel that because they have been brought up in an environment where
teenagers are free from doing what they want, they feel that what they do is not
wrong. Therefore, this has to be cultured when they are still young. Thus, we
believe that teenagers should be put into boot camp so that while they are still
young, we are able to amend their behavior and instill in them the correct way
of behaving.
Last but not least, I
think that the boot camp should also allow girls to be accepted. This is because
girls are also involved in these cases. It is unfair that only boys are able to
be put into this system. Girls are also able to influence boys with their bad behaviors. This is because even if the boys complete the boot camp and have
changed. They can still be influence by their female friends because teenagers
tend to spend most of their time with friends. This means if the both girls and
boys are being sent to the boot camp, we can solve this problem by correcting
their behaviors.
In conclusion, I think
that Singapore should have this boot camp to help discipline teenagers.
